Syllabus  - Ezra, Nehemiah & Esther

I. COURSE REQUIREMENTS

We will conduct our studies from the King James Version of the Bible. This will insure conformity in our word studies and reading assignments. From time to time we will compare this text with the American Standard Version of 1901. 

II. SUGGESTED READING: 

It is imperative that you read the assigned text for each class session prior to coming into the class. 

III. COURSE ASSIGNMENTS: 

You will be required to outline various passages.

These outlines are to be turned in within one week after the assignment is given. 
You will also be given word studies from time to time and they are to be completed by 8 A. M. on Monday following our Saturday class time.

IV. DATES AND TIME FOR SEMESTER STUDIES:

Our semester studies begin on the first Saturday in January. We will have a Spring break and a break for the Lectureship at Phillips Street. Our final class is the third Saturday in May. Our class sessions will be 50 minutes each beginning at 11 AM CTZ.

  6. Lesson 6: Ezra chapter 6. (Test number 1.)
  7. Lesson 7: Introduction, background and Esther chapters 1-2.
  8. Lesson 8: Esther chapter 3.
  9. Lesson 9: Esther chapter 4.
10. Lesson 10: Esther chapters 5-7.
11. Lesson 11: Esther chapters 8-10. (Test number 2.)
12. Lesson 12: Ezra chapters 7-8.
13. Lesson 13: Ezra chapters 9-10. (Test number 3.)
14. Lesson 14: Nehemiah 1:1-2:8.
15. Lesson 15: Nehemiah 2:9-6:19.
16. Lesson 16: Nehemiah chapters 7-10.
17. Lesson 17: Nehemiah 11-12.
18. Lesson 18: Nehemiah 13. (Test number 4.)

VI. TESTS: 

There will be four tests given during the semester. They will cover the four sections of our study. (They will come at the close of lessons 6, 11, 13 and 18.) These tests are to be completed by 8 A.M. on Friday following the Saturday class session.

At the end of Lesson 18 you will be asked to write a three to five page paper giving an overview of these three books. This assignment is to be turned in by 8 A. M. on Saturday, one week from our final class period. 

There will be pop tests from time to time at the end of our classroom sessions. These are to be answered and sent to me as soon as the class is ended.
Points will be deducted for assignments that are turned in late.

DAY OF PENTECOST

INTRODUCTION:
A. The apostles were assembled at the right place at the right time. (Luke 24:46-49)
B. Pentecost was observed on the 50th day following the Passover Feast. (Leviticus 23:10-11,15)
C. The establishment of the church in this chapter is the fulfillment of Joel 2; Daniel 2; and Isaiah 2.

DISCUSSION: FROM CHAPTER 2 WE OBSERVE...

I. THE POWER. (1-13)
A. The apostles were filled with the Holy Ghost. (1-4)
B. The tongues were native languages. (2:4, 6, 8, 11; Mark 16:17)
C. The power was given to confirm the word. (Mark 16:20)
