CAIN & ABEL

Life's choices are many and varied. We all make them every day. Some choices ae easy while others are hard. The results of some of them amount to little or nothing of consequence. Yet. the consequences of some are great indeed. Some of those choices effect only this physical life, but many effect ones spiritual life, and thus destiny, as well.

Recognizing all of this, it is needful for us to also recognize the importance of having a proper standard to base our choices on. I stress the word "proper" here, because too often the standard used fluctuates with the time, occasion or feeling that one presently has. The standard we use in making our decisions should, of course, be much more solid than these.

I propose that the standard that should be used, rather than feelings, friends, or family, is that which will judge us- the word of God. Jesus said, in John 12:48, "He that rejecteth me, and receiveth not my words, hath one that judgeth him: the word that I have spoken, the same shall judge him in the last day." Paul then stressed the need to learn from the scriptural record given to us by inspiration (Romans 15:4; I Corinthians 10:11).

Understanding Jesus' declaration, and listening to Paul's encouragement, it will do us good to learn from the choices, and thus actions, of CAIN & ABEL- brothers of long ago, sons of the first couple, who made choices that effected the rest of their lives, physically and eternally.
