Weeknight Class: General Introduction to the Bible
Instructor: Brendan Carr
I. PURPOSE:
o A study of the critical issues surrounding the Scriptures; namely the inspiration, the canonicity, and the textual criticism of the Bible.
o To provide reading assignments, study questions, and lessons to encourage good personal Bible study habits.
II. TEXTBOOKS:
o King James Version of the Bible (required).
o The Book God “Breathed” by Keith A. Mosher Sr. (recommended).
o A General Introduction to the Bible by Norman L. Geisler & William E. Nix (recommended).
III. COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
o Each student is required to be in class and should notify the director and instructor if one is to be absent.
o Each student is to pay attention throughout the course and keep good notes.
o There will be memory work throughout the course and their due dates can be found under the Course Schedule.
o There will be three quizzes issued throughout the quarter. Please see Course Schedule for more information.
IV. TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:
o Memory Work: Each student will type them out from memory into an email, put the grade in the subject line and send it to the instructor before the start of class on the assigned due date.
o Quizzes: There will be three quizzes issued throughout the course according to the course
schedule. Each student is to copy and paste the quizzes into an email, addressed only to the instructor, answer the questions, and send them to the instructor before the beginning of the next class period. Each student is permitted to use their Bible, notes gathered in class, and handouts issued by the instructor.
V. COURSE GRADING:
o Memory Work will account for 40% of the final grade.
o Quizzes will account for 60% of the final grade.
VI. COURSE SCHEDULE:
o The class will meet on Tuesdays at 7 PM CTZ. There will be a total of 15 Tuesday Night sessions.
