Syllabus – Joshua, Judges & Ruth

PURPOSE:
A detailed study of the history of the Hebrews from the death of Moses through the Old Testament judges
Tracing the history of faithfulness through the Book of Joshua, understanding the importance of deliverance from sin by the study of the Book of Judges, concluding with a study of the Book of Ruth and its application to Christ and His church
Trace the conquest and settlement of the land of promise
Discuss the lives of prominent Bible characters and the judges during this age
Detail relevant lessons for the church today
Note those events that tie into God's plan of redemption
TEXTBOOKS:
Holy Bible, King James Version or the 1901 American Standard Version
Redemption Through the Bible: A study of the Book of Joshua by Franklin Camp
Redemption Through the Bible: A study of the Books of Judges & Ruth by Franklin Camp

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Reading each of the three books of the Bible at least three times during the semester
Reading all assigned outside reading from the Franklin Camp books
Attendance at all classes, or excused absence from the director
TESTS AND ASSIGNMENTS:
Six exams
Five sermon outlines (two from Joshua, two from Judges, and one from Ruth)
One term paper consisting of at least 2,000 words on a pre-approved topic which will be due the last week of the semester
GRADING:
Six exams
Five sermon outlines (two from Joshua, two from Judges, and one from Ruth)
Term paper
The final grade will be an accumulation of points from all reading assignments, exams, sermon outlines, and term paper divided by a percentage for a final letter grade and a percentage
COURSE SCHEDULE:
Classes meet each Saturday for 18 sessions at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM CTZ. Each class will be 50 minutes in length with a 10 minute break between classes. Two breaks total will be taken over the course of the semester.
