FUNDAMENTALS OF SONG LEADING

Course Purpose:
The purpose of this class is to help you understand the responsibilities of song leading, understand how to read music, and to be a better song leader.
What You Will Need For This Course:
You will need to have one of the songbooks from the list below. If you do not have a personal copy, see if you can borrow one from the congregation where you attend. But it is highly recommended you have your own personal copy (to be able to write and make notes in).

Sacred Songs of the Church
Songs of the Church
Songs of the Church (21st Century)
Church Gospel Songs and Hymns
Sacred Selections for the Church
You will need a pitch pipe or download a pitch pipe app.
King James Version Bible.
Course Requirements and Assignments:
You will need to be present in class and participate each week.
Materials and weekly homework assignments will be given out. Please be ready to discuss the homework assignments for the next class.
3 recorded videos of you leading a song (either privately or before a congregation).
Course Grades:
Factors entering the final grade will be (1) attendance, (2) participation, (3) weekly assignments, (4) recording videos of song leading.
Course Schedule:
Starting on August 14, classes meet each Monday night for 15 sessions beginning at 8 pm CTZ. Each class will be 50 minutes in length. There will be two breaks during the semester: September 18 and November 20.
